Quaker Roots and Values
- The Barclay, a Quaker boarding home was established in West Chester in 1893.
Following the principles of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), over many years, the board of directors responded to the needs of older persons in a variety of ways.
Friends Hall was purchased to provide nursing care and The Barclay, the boarding home, expanded to Assisted Living. Both communities joined at the present site to form Barclay Friends, an affiliate of The Kendal Corporation.
- Drawing upon its Quaker roots, Barclay Friends today strives to honor the spirit, humanness, and basic rights of the older person.
"It is a blessing to know that my mother can stay at Barclay Friends where she is content and well cared for. Your Quaker ideals shine through all you do." ~ Family Member
